How to Apply for Study Permit?
If you intend to study in Canada, to apply for a Study Permit, you must first enroll and be accepted to study at a Canadian educational institution. Such College/University will issue an Acceptance Letter indicating confirmation of admission to a course, duration of course, tuition fee etc. To apply, you need to have a valid passport or travel document. Application for grant of Study Permit is to be submitted at the Canadian Visa Office responsible for your country of residence.
Person applying for Study Permit must also:
- prove that they have enough money to pay for their:
- tuition fees,
- living expenses for themselves & any family members accompanying them to Canada, and
- return transportation for self and any accompanying family members.
- be a law-abiding citizen with no criminal record and not be a risk to the security of Canada. You may have to provide a police certificate.
- be in good health. You may need to complete a medical exam.
- convince an immigration officer that you will leave Canada at the end of your studies.
Additionally, you must meet the following requirements for a Canadian Student visa:
- You must be able to prove that you have enough money to pay for your: tuition fees, living expenses for yourself and any family members who accompany you, return transportation for you and any family members who accompany you.
- You must be a law-abiding citizen with no criminal record.
- You must be in good health and willing to complete a medical examination, if necessary.
- You must satisfy an immigration officer that you will leave Canada when you have completed your studies.
Possibility of Immigration

- Apply for Post-graduation Work Permit
Post-Graduation Work Permit
If you have graduated from a designated learning institution, and want to stay in Canada temporarily while working, you may be eligible to apply for a post-graduation work permit (PGWP). You need to apply for a work permit within 90 days of when it was confirmed that you completed your program and have a valid study permit when you apply for the work permit. How long the post-graduation work permit is valid for depends on the length of your study program. You can work full-time until a decision is made on your work permit application if you :
- completed your study program,
- applied for a work permit before your study permit expired, and
- were eligible to work off-campus without a work permit while studying and did not work more hours than you were allowed to while working off-campus.
The Post-Graduation Work Permit Program (PGWPP) allows students, who have graduated from an eligible Canadian post-secondary institutions, to gain valuable Canadian work experience. Skilled Canadian work experience gained through the PGWPP helps graduates qualify for permanent residence in Canada.
